RICE STRAW

Rice straw is a readily available, cost-effective roughage option for feeding ruminants such as buffaloes, cattle, goats, and sheep. Livestock producers often collect and stack rice straw from their farms to create a reserve feed supply for times when high-quality roughages are scarce.

Rice straw contains 3% to 6% protein and is composed of thick cell walls, acid and neutral detergent fibers (NDF and ADF), and degradable carbohydrates like cellulose and hemicellulose. It also includes lignin, a non-digestible phenolic compound. Primarily used as bulk or filler in ruminant diets, rice straw helps animals meet their dry matter requirements. Approximately 80% of these components are biodegradable, offering potential energy. With a dry matter content of 92–96%, rice straw is highly effective in this role.

Sharp Ages Premium Quality Rice Straw

Sharp Ages is a leading animal feed exporter in Pakistan, offering premium rice straw to meet the fiber needs of farm animals. Our rice straw undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure consistent nutrient content and suitability for feed. Our commitment to quality assurance delivers a reliable fiber source that supports both animal health and environmental sustainability.

PROCESSING OF RICE STRAW

Chopping or pelleting rice straw breaks down its cell wall components, reducing particle size and making it easier for rumen microorganisms to access and degrade. These physical processes enhance the straw’s digestibility. However, it’s crucial to balance particle size with the passage rate of treated straw. Chopping rice straw promotes animal intake by reducing particle size, which also increases the feed’s passage rate.

Rice Straw Production & Processing

  • Cultivation Planning: Choose hybrid, fields, season, and sowing density. Plant rice from May to June and harvest from October to December.
  • Harvesting: Use Pak seeder/happy seeder machines to spread loose straw uniformly.
  • Chopping & Collection: Shred rice straw and collect it.
  • Heat Treatment: Heat in a rotary chamber at 150°C for 10 minutes in an airtight environment.
  • Compressing Bales: Double compress and air-tightly pack bales with mechanical balers.
  • Formalin Fumigation: Use 35-45% formalin, then store at 20°C for 8 hours for germicidal action.
  • Storage & Loading: Store for 3-4 weeks under optimal conditions; containers and carriages are also fumigated.
  • Final Step: Ready for animal feed.
