RHODES GRASS

Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana) is a key summer-growing perennial in Pakistan, thriving in tropical and subtropical regions like India and Bangladesh. Rhodes grass crucial for animal forage exports due to its high yield and nutritional value. Early-harvested Rhodes grass offers high protein and digestibility, making it suitable for grazing and hay for various livestock including cows, cattle, goats, and horses. vigorous stolons (runners) of Rhodes grass help prevent soil erosion, supporting soil quality and ecosystem sustainability. Pakistan has strong potential to be a major Rhodes grass exporter due to its Natural environment, favorable growing conditions and focus on high-quality varieties of Rhodes grass.

Modern Farming of RhodeS Grass

Rhodes grass provides exceptional yield potential for farmers, with up to 8 harvests possible during summer when managed properly. Harvesting every 20-25 days encourages healthy regrowth and preserves nutritional value. It is particularly suitable for feeding goats due to its palatability and nutritional benefits.

Our farm uses imported, high-yielding seeds chosen for their rapid regrowth and superior nutritional content. We employ cutting-edge harvesting equipment and machine-to-machine processes to ensure efficient, clean cuts, reducing waste and maximizing the collection of high-quality forage.

From Our Farms

In Pakistan, Mombasa grass establishes rapidly, providing ground cover within 3 months of sowing. This quick-growing cover crop enhances soil health by improving structure, water infiltration, retention, and lowering soil temperatures during hot summers, creating a better environment for future crops.
We are dedicated to sustainable and responsible agriculture. Our Mombasa grass hay is grown without harmful chemicals, ensuring high quality and safety for farm animals. We use natural pest control methods to support a healthier ecosystem and maintain the sustainability of our farming practices.
Rhodes grass hay, free from chemical impurities, meets the nutritional needs of horses and is increasingly in demand. Its low oxalate content makes it a healthy and balanced diet option for horses.
After harvesting Rhodes grass, we process the leftover clippings into valuable organic mulch. This mulch prevents soil erosion, enriches the soil, and creates an ideal seedbed for crops like zucchini, bulb onions, and eggplant. It allows for double cropping, enhances land use, and provides organic, chemical-free protection against wind and sun.

Rhodes Grass Production Process

  • Planning:Select suitable hybrid, fields, and determine sowing density. Optimal sowing time is February to October.
  • Harvesting:Use a mower to cut grass 4 inches above soil. First harvest in 50 days, subsequent cuts every 30 days.
  • Cutting & Collection:Employ a mechanical rake to form windrows (swaths) by aligning cut material in linear sections.
  • Sun Drying: Begin drying with raking, reducing moisture to 15% or less.
  • Baling: Compress and double-compress bales using mechanical balers.
  • Formalin Fumigation: Use 35-45% formalin and placed at 20°C for 8 hours for germicidal activity.
  • Storage & Loading: Store under optimal conditions; containers are also fumigated.
  • Final: Ready for animal feed
